Water
The Cretans are proud of the drinking quality of their tap water. Bottled water is cheap and readily available. Always carry at least one litre of water in the cooler months and two litres of water in the summer. Dehydration is a serious risk if you do not drink to replace the fluid lost by evaporation. Water is not available in the mountains.
Water courses are often badly polluted.
Do not use water courses or cisterns for bathing or drinking unless you are well above all farms and villages.
